Hero is a 1991 AQHA gelding. He suffers from Navicular syndrome, with radiographed “changes” in both front feet, more severely in the right one. He has been shod with several different types of corrections, including egg-bar shoes (with and without pads), Cytek shoes (with and without pads), shoes with heel corks and varying degrees of pads, and shoes without pads. All made improvements initially, but lameness returned each time. In the spring of 2005, Hero had a neurectomy, severing the nerves in both front feet. This provided pasture soundness for a time, but eventually the nerves regrew and the lameness returned. Throughout the shoeing changes, Hero experimented with different types of medications on the reccomendation of my vets. These ranged from traditional drugs to obscure herbal remedies. We also tried several different types of therapy including massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, and reiki. I was determined to do anything in my power to make him comfortable. Despite all my best efforts, Hero’s condition continued to decline. I started to lose hope, and fear that it could be time to send him to greener pastures. Finally, in May 2008, Hero’s pictures were found on an internet bulletain board, and I was introduced to natural hoofcare. I bought the book “MAKING NATURAL HOOFCARE WORK FOR YOU” by PETE RAMEY- I believe this book should be in the hands of every horse owner, bar none. Within a few weeks, I had Hero’s shoes pulled, and we began his barefoot journey. (You
