Sufi bossanova is dance homage to Rumi, inspired by the Sufi tradition of male dervishes mystic whirling dance meditation. Sufi bossanova is a new and Interpretive/ Contemporary Dance, Modern ritual for women emphasizing and practicing unique female sensuality and spirituality. Set to Nitin Sahwney’s mix of gentle Brazilian bossanova and poignant Arabic vocal, this composition is an interactive experience for the dancers and the audience. While spinning with multi-colored silks, dancers loose themselves in motion, and dissolve, becoming one with the Universe. The observing audience, meditating on colors, feminine body curves, and revolving movements may achieve the same effect. Healing purposes of color therapy not known much in the US, but people all over the world consider seeing a rainbow as a sign of good luck. Spinning in dance, on the other hand is known to bring people to a state of Trance, which can be healing for both dancers and spectators.
