Anodea Judith is the world's top authority on the traditional chakra system, which was first identified during the Tantric period of Classical India. But she has also taken the study of the chakras into numerous new fields, including developmental psychology (in her book "Eastern Body, Western Mind," and the history of human civilization (in her book, "Waking the Global Heart: Humanity's Rite of Passage"). She is a scholar who researches her subjects deeply. There has been so much crap written about the chakras by people who have made up theories or discuss new "chakras" which somehow only they are able to see. It's unfortunate that some people eat that junk like candy, because there really is an authoritative view, based in literature and history, biology and psychology. Anodea Judith is the real pioneer and intellectual leader who has popularized the chakra system, but her writing is not woo-woo. It is solid, academic, intelligent, and yet she never insults her readers. This book, still in print (and available on her website, [...], remains an authoritative text you can rely on for reference, year after year. Be sure to take one of her workshops - she's an awesome teacher, very real and available, without a gigantic ego that needs feeding. Highly recommended.
